School Resource Officer

Officer Hendrix and the Senior Experience Class -

Viborg-Hurley Schools along with several neighboring school districts have  partnered with the Turner County Sheriff's office this year to pilot a school resource officer program in our schools during the 2019-2020 school year.  The school resource officer, Officer Colter Hendrix, will split his time between the participating school districts.  Officer Hendrix is a sworn law enforcement officer that will be responsible for safety and crime prevention in our schools along with additional duties such as mentoring and providing presentations on youth related issues.  So far this year in Viborg, Officer Hendrix has visited our Kindergarten classroom to talk about his job as a police officer and to introduce himself to our students.  He has also been a guest speaker in our Senior Experience Class to talk to the students about potential careers in the field of law enforcement and in our Social Problems class to answer students questions on a wide variety of topics.

Roles of a School Resource Officer

Having Officer Hendrix in our buildings this year is having a positive impact as it has allowed our students to talk with him in a learning type setting and to ask questions that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to ask.  Building positive relationships is a large part of what this program is about.

We would like to welcome Officer Hendrix to our school community and hope that if you see him at the school or at a school event that you take the time to stop and say hello and learn about the program.
