In 7th grade Reading the new unit is called Perception and Reality. In this unit the students study folk talks, poems, magazine articles, a short story, and a play; each one with their own take on Perception and Reality. After the article “Pavement Chalk Art” the students spent the class period researching Julian Beever and his sidewalk chalk art. The students then picked partners and came up with a rough draft for their own sidewalk chalk art. Since it is in the middle of winter, we have to get a little bit creative, so their sidewalk is black piece of bulletin board paper. They work together for 3 class periods to try to make a 3D image. This class did an outstanding job and worked very hard at trying to make this work.
