School Bus Safety

Next week marks the start of another school year and school buses will be picking up their passengers, kids on bikes will be hurrying to get to school before the bell rings, busy parents will be trying to drop their kids off before work. Therefore, our message to all drivers is that it's never more important for drivers to slow down and pay attention than when kids are present – especially before and after school.

With the start of a new school year the Viborg-Hurley staff and administration urge all drivers to use extra caution when driving before and after school as little ones do not always look as carefully as they should when crossing the streets, riding their bicycles, or when crossing a roadway to get on or off a stopped school bus.

While preparing for this article on school safety, I came across three very good resources that I will share here.  The first was a story by KDLT News - Sharing the Road with School Buses: Driving Law Reminders.  The second was an article by the National Safety Council which reminds drivers to slow down now that school is starting.  Slow Down - Back To School Means Sharing the Roads.  The third is an excellent article to review with your children before school starts  Back to School Safety Tips for Parents and Children .

We are looking forward to a productive and safe school year.  Please help us by driving cautiously in and around the schools and when meeting or coming upon our school buses.
